Tofu Popcorn

  • 350g block extra firm tofu
  • ⅓ cup gram flour (or ordinary plain)
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp all purpose seasoning (eg cajun / piri piri)
  • olive / coconut oil
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp salt

Optional:

  • 1 tbsp mustard
  1. Press tofu for at least 10 minutes.

  2. Add to a mixing bowl:

    • ⅓ cup gram flour
    • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 tsp all purpose seasoning
    • ½ tsp pepper
  3. Slowly add ⅓ cup water, whisking as you go. The coating should be the consistency of pancake batter.

  4. Add 1 tbsp mustard if using and mix.

  5. Break the tofu into big crumbles and mix into the coating.

  6. Heat oil in a non stick pan. Pour the tofu mix into the pan and spread so the tofu is on a single layer.

  7. Cook on both sides until golden brown, adding oil as needed.
